The Milton Presbyterian Church is one of the churches in Rittman to support The Server through financial donations and volunteers. The Server started with the desire to see the community of Rittman more connected. There are so many things that divide us, whether it is the amount of money we have, how old we are, where we have grown up, the church we go to or even what our core beliefs may be. The Server is a place that seeks to break down those barriers. The Server is supported by most of the Churches in Rittman coming together as one faithful and loving community of neighbors. With this shared support, all the services provided at the Cafe are free while accepting free will donations for those who wish to support its value. The Server is a place where you can go to meet up, have a cup of coffee, see what is going on in the community, get a cup of coffee and a small bite to eat, and get connected to your neighbors in Rittman!
During the month of December, the congregation joins the Rittman United Methodist Church to organize and run the Community Christmas Baskets program. This program helps around 200 Rittman families with food and presents for Christmas.
At the urging of one of our Small Groups in 2006, the Session voted to begin a Food Pantry. Stocked with the donations of members and friends of the congregation, the Food Pantry is available to anyone who needs assistance as long as the office is open (Monday–Friday 9a–1p) or as long as someone is at church. When a neighbor in the vicinity of the congregation expresses a need for food aid, we can now help them with a good variety of simple, tasty food choices.
The last Sunday of every month from January through October we host a free community dinner. Everyone is invited to share a meal with us beginning at 6:30pm. At 7:00pm we host a guest speaker who is a community leader, church leader, missionary or will host a musician.
For well over 30 years, our congregation has served our community as the host site for the Rittman community Head Start program. Under the auspices of Community Action of Wayne and Medina counties, the Head Start program makes excellent use of our education wing throughout the school week. The professional staff serving the children includes certified teachers, social workers, intervention specialists, cooks, and aides. Every measure is taken to ensure that the individual needs of these preschool students is met.
Cub Scout pack 3405 regularly meets at the Church, and the Boy Scouts also help out at the church as well. For many decades, the Milton Church has offered continuing support for the Scouting program in our community as a proud Sponsor.
